CGPS Student Spotlight: Quanmetris Keshon Mathis
My name is Quanmetris Keshon Mathis, and I’m majoring in psychology in hopes to obtain my associate’s degree. My anticipated graduation year is Fall 2017.
What do you plan to do with your degree?
I’m not sure what I’m going to do exactly with this degree, but I do believe God has been graciously equipping me through this journey. Ever since I started this major, I have learned so much about myself as a thinker and learner. I have even been taught how to think critically and effectively in all situations. My mind has never been so open and attentive. These tools are benefiting me majorly while working for the Kingdom of God.
What has been the most impactful course during your time at Point?
The most impactful course that I’ve taken so far has been Intro to Adult Learning. At first I assumed an intro course wouldn’t do much for me, but that’s just how God works. He uses the least expected. In that course, I began to dissect myself and view my ways in a new light.
What advice would you give other students that are new to the Point program?
Advice I would give to new students would to be to pace yourself. The online learning environment can truly be intimidating at first especially for higher learning. Yet when you pace yourself, you not only find your rhythm but you intake more as well. Lastly don’t be afraid to interact as if it was a traditional setting; talk amongst your peers.
What are your passions/hobbies?
A passion of mine is reading, and I know it sounds cliché, but I really do love it. I just like to learn all kind of new things and techniques. Also, one of my favorite hobbies is to bake; it’s just something that allows me to create on a different level.
